Microneedling is a skin resurfacing procedure that is proven to be safe and effective. Using very tiny needles, we create microscopic injuries to the skin that stimulate new collagen formation. These microscopic injuries create channels by which we can add topical solutions that deeply penetrate the skin. Although topical solutions can be effective for the epidermis, the outermost layer of the skin, microneedling allows for topical solutions to reach the dermis (deeper skin layer) through channels created by the procedure. These solutions work much more efficiently when used with microneedling. When we combine microneedling of the entire face with PRP, we call it the Vampire Facial®
PRP is platelet rich plasma. It has been used in dentistry and orthopaedics as well as in reconstructive surgery for decades. We now use PRP in aesthetic medicine and dermatology. Blood is mainly a liquid called plasma, but it also has solid components. One of the solid components are platelets which cause our blood to clot, but they have numerous growth factors which are very important. When PRP is injected into the skin, recent studies show that it can stimulate new collagen, blood vessel formation, and improve scars. It also helps to improve the color of the skin, skin elasticity, and texture. We isolate PRP by drawing a very small amount of blood and spinning it down in a centrifuge in the office.
Microneedling is highly effective in smoothing the skin and improving texture and tone to create a brighter and more youthful complexion. We often use microneedling to treat scars from acne or surgery, very fine lines and wrinkles, sagging skin, stretch marks, and we use it in hair restoration. We also can use microneedling to help with dark under eye circles. We work with our patients to create customized microneedling plans. There is little to no downtime following the procedure. After your microneedling treatment, it is important to stay out of the sun and protect your skin with sunblock. We offer complimentary consultations. Contact us to schedule an appointment.
