How Dermal Fillers Can Restore Lost Volume to Your Face

You finally lost those last few pounds and your body looks amazing. But your face? It’s aged about 10 years in just a few months. Or perhaps your weight is stable, but your face just isn’t. Month by month, year by year, it’s sagging lower and lower.

You’re dead set against plastic surgery, but you’re looking for an instant pick-me-up that picks up those drooping cheeks and jowls, too. At OBGYN Care of Houston, we know just how you feel. That’s why our team, led by Sharon Smith, MD, offers dermal fillers to restore lost facial volume.

How dermal fillers work

At OBGYN Care of Houston, we use injectable dermal fillers made of hyaluronic acid (HA) gel. Your body naturally produces HA, which it uses to keep your skin firm, elastic, and moist, and to lubricate your joints. But, as with most of the good things that your body produces, HA production slows down over time.

To make matters worse, our beautiful Houston sun’s UVA and UVB rays and the natural aging process deplete the stores of HA that you have in your skin. So your skin gets drier and thinner, leading to the telltale signs of volume loss, such as:

When we inject an area of volume loss with an HA filler, though, the gel adds moisture and volume for immediate smoothing and lift. By selecting different consistencies of dermal fillers from the Juvéderm® and Restylane® collections and by augmenting with Belotero® or Radiesse® (a collagen-stimulating filler), we create an instant liquid face-lift.

Depending on which filler we use in which area, your results last from 6-18 months.

Lift and build your cheekbones

The most dramatic way to restore lost volume and lift your entire face is to replace the lost volume in your cheeks and midface area with a thick HA filler, such as Juvéderm Voluma or Restylane Lyft. We can even create higher cheekbones that make you look as elegant as a Hollywood star with just a few injections.

By adding volume to your midface and cheeks, we lift up everything that falls below it. Just this one change could be enough to resolve slight jowling and smooth out your nasolabial folds. But, of course, you don’t have to stop there.

Fill in creases, folds, and wrinkles

Belotero, Juvéderm, Juvéderm Vollure, and Restylane Refyne and Defyne instantly fill in and plump those deep creases around your nose and mouth, such as nasolabial folds and marionette lines. By adding volume to those deep creases, we smooth out those downward lines that make you look older and even sadder.

We might also recommend the collagen-stimulator Radiesse in this area to treat very deep folds. Radiesse takes time to work, but the results can be long-lasting.

Lighter fillers, such as Juvéderm Volbella and Restylane Silk are great for ironing out fine lines and wrinkles. One problem area that responds well to these thinner fillers are the pesky perioral lines around your lips, sometimes referred to as smoker’s lines.

Restore your kissability

Your lips are thinner. Don’t believe us? Compare yourself to a video 10-20 years ago, or even some photographs. You’ll be surprised at the volume change.

Luckily, you can restore your lost lip volume with dermal fillers. Choose from Juvéderm, Volbella, or Restylane Silk, depending on how dramatically you want to firm up and plump your lips. If you want to ease into dermal fillers, a lip augmentation is a great way to start because plumper lips brighten up and rejuvenate your entire face.
